EDT Partner with Omega RE to support young people in Hampshire

In the UK, huge numbers of young people are missing out on opportunities in STEM because of their backgrounds. Gender, ethnicity and socio-economic background all influence how likely young people are to choose STEM studies and thrive in STEM careers. This inequality doesn’t just impact on individual lives; our society is being deprived of the diverse voices and skilled future leaders we need to tackle urgent economic and social challenges.

EDT, a UK wide educational charity are partnering with leading South Coast Commercial Property company Omega RE to support students across Hampshire.

Omega RE have kindly agreed to support EDT both financially through fundraising and in person through volunteering with EDT groups. In the next year EDT are looking forward to welcoming the Omega RE team in supporting STEM workshops, mentored challenges, webinars including sharing life experiences that support resilience development and celebration events with young people across Hampshire.

Geoff Jellis, Fundraising Manager EDT explained, “We are seeing increasing interest in this type of partnership with employers that mix volunteering fundraising with volunteering in programmes that support young people. We are delighted to be partnering with a company recognised in Hampshire for their commercial property excellence, but also because this is our first time this type of partnership has been with an SME. Most of all from our conversations we are looking forward to the Omega team sharing their passion and experiences with young people in Hampshire.”

EDT is a UK wide educational charity, delivering and accrediting 50,000+ experiences through Industrial Cadets awards each year. With over 35 years of experience connecting employers with young people andeducators, EDT provides inspiring opportunities for young people to explore the exciting world of STEM, and the variety of rewarding future careers available.

EDT Industrial Cadets accredited programmes and awards provide opportunities through education to employment, aiming to give students aged 9-21 across the UK access to an Industrial Cadets programme, which provides them with the opportunity to develop critical skills for a career in STEM.

EDT developed Industrial Cadets with support from industry to provide a benchmark accreditation, mapping activities against a skills and competency framework.  Inspired by its Patron, His Majesty King Charles III, Industrial Cadets is the “Kitemark” award for young people engaging with the world of work, providing much needed insights and real-life experiences.
